With an abundance of health information coming at us from all directions, it is easy to become overwhelmed with the lifestyle choices available today. At Crestwood, we hope to give you some simple tools and concrete information that help you improve your health. Remember that big changes can happen in small steps, and every day you have a chance to make healthy habits a part of your routine. <\/p>\n\n                <p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.3em;\"> Nutrition<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\tMost research suggests that eating plant-based, natural foods best support overall health. Diets rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and healthy sources of proteins and fats decrease the risk of chronic disease and may help you live longer. <br \/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\tHere are some simple tips for making healthier choices:\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t   <li>Fill half of your plate with vegetables and fruits, the more variety, the better.<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t   <li>Choose whole grain carbohydrates, such as whole wheat bread, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, and other grains like farro, buckwheat, and barley. Limit refined grains like white bread, white rice, and avoid added sugar.<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t   <li>Choose healthy proteins like beans, nuts, and seeds. Poultry and fish are also good choices. Limit red meats and processed meats like bacon, sausage, and lunch meat.<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t   <li>Choose healthy fats to cook with, like olive oil, canola oil, avocado oil, etc. Limit saturated fats like cheese and butter and avoid trans fats (listed as hydrogenated oils) in processed foods. <\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t   <li>Drink water or unsweetened (or lightly sweetened) tea and coffee. Low fat dairy and 100% fruit juice are ok in moderation.  Avoid sweetened beverages like soda and juice drinks.<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.3em;\">Recipes<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n                Have you ever had a meal at one of our campuses and wanted to prepare it at home? All of the Heart Healthy Diet recipes can be found on the intranet in the Nutrition &#038; Wellness folder and are scaled down to a serving size of four. Check out our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbhiemployeecenter.com\/le-sites\/cw8Dimensions\/cwPhysicalDimension\/PhysicalDimension\/files\/Crestwood_Cookbook_NEW_version.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cookbook<\/a> to look for new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbhiemployeecenter.com\/external\/cbhiexternal\/wellness\/physical-health\/nutrition-healthy-eating\/\">recipes<\/a>.<\/p><br \/>\n\n\n\t\t\t\t<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.3em;\">Health &amp; Wellness In-Services<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n                In addition to the Heart Healthy Diet that we prepare for persons served and our Zumba exercise program, we also provide health education on a variety of topics in the form of in-services. These presentations are recorded and uploaded to the Crestwood Learning Center (CLC) so that staff can view them at any time. We encourage you to check out these resources and useful information to improve your health and get your in-service hours. Our most recent in-service, Ultra-Processed Foods, is now available on the CLC. To view this in-service, click on the search bar in the top right-hand corner of your learner home page and search <strong>\u201cHealth and Wellness.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><br \/>\t\t\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.3em;\">Motivational Wellness Tips<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n                Need a small boost or some words of encouragement? As a licensed Zumba Instructor, Greg has brought fun exercise opportunities to Crestwood by implementing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbhiemployeecenter.com\/cbhi\/wellness\/physical-health\/exercise\/\" >Zumba Program<\/a> across many of our campuses. With 15 years of Zumba experience and mastery, Greg presents Zumba workshops at mental health conferences across the nation, instructing classes and discussing topics like <em>How Zumba Levels the Playing Field in a Behavioral Health Setting<\/em>. Now, mentoring around 59 employees, Greg helps our staff become licensed Zumba Fitness Instructors so they too can provide fun, engaging Zumba classes for our persons served and fellow staff members.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<p>When we think of the equation F=LBC (Fun = Lasting Behavioral Change), it is our Crestwood reminder that through Zumba we can have fun engaging in fitness activities while also reaping wellness benefits like decreased anxiety, improved mood, a healthier heart, greater mobility, and more!
