WRAP

WRAP (wellness recovery action plan) is an evidence-based treatment tool that Crestwood has been using for more than 15 years. It is a personalized wellness and recovery approach that helps people to decrease and prevent intrusive or troubling feelings and behaviors; increase personal empowerment; improve quality of life; and achieve their own life goals and dreams. WRAP can help individuals to monitor uncomfortable and distressing feelings and behaviors and, through planned responses, reduce, modify, or eliminate those feelings. WRAP also includes plans for responses from others when an individual cannot make decisions, take care of themselves, and/or keep themselves safe.

Crestwood has instilled WRAP into all of our services and staff. WRAP has been implemented in each one of our programs, with a variety of approaches being used. While the curriculum of WRAP has core values and ethics that are to be adhered to, there are a variety of ways that it can be taught. Providing WRAP in a variety of approaches enables the client to choose the kind of approach that most directly appeals to their needs and interests.

Crestwood believes in the healing power of WRAP and has established a WRAP Committee to support all of our programs to carry out the mission of WRAP — to improve wellness and quality of life for ALL, which includes clients and staff.

The Crestwood WRAP Committee provides ongoing Corporate WRAP trainings, mentoring/technical assistance throughout our campus, and a new leading-edge project since 2016. The Organizational WRAP Landscape (OWL) collaboration with The Copeland Center and CBHI. The OWL Project is intended to support the well-being of our workforce which supports our focus of wellness and recovery for those we serve.

WRAP on our campuses is typically conducted 4-5 times per week, with two Certified WRAP Facilitators leading the oversight of the curriculum and leading groups. A typical WRAP class involves an open-ended or time-limited class cycle (depending on the facility). WRAP groups have the leader and clients in a circle, binders open, going through their plan together. It is a requirement of the WRAP curriculum that if you are going to teach it, you MUST be actively working on your own plan. This would include the group leader, sharing at an appropriate level, what is in their own plan.

The advantage of having the majority of the Crestwood workforce oriented to having a WRAP plan is that they can support the program through sharing in the common language of the plan, and it assists in the reduction of the us/them power differential that can impede establishing a therapeutic relationship.

We have found that programs that conduct WRAP classes four to five times per week have higher statistics in discharging their clients to lower levels of care.

Other forms of WRAP groups include, but are not limited to:

WRAP for Women and WRAP for Men
WRAP to Work
WRAP 0verview Training for staff to create their own plan (this includes ALL staff, regardless of whether or not they will be teaching it)
Applying WRAP to your life outside of the facility i.e. when you get discharged, when you go home for a visit with your family, etc.
WRAP for School in our supported education programs.

Creating Workplace Wellness Webinar

On November 29, Copeland Center presented a webinar, Create Workplace Wellness, that featured Crestwood and how we are working to transform our workplace and workforce to a place of Wellness by creating “Organizational Wellness Landscape,” (The OWL Project). We spend a large part of our life at “work” and we all know how crushing an unhappy workplace can be. Determined to create an environment of support and hope – Crestwood has made the extraordinary decision to bring wellness to its staff. It’s an incredible story of an organization who recognizes staff must practice wellness in order to share it with the people it serves. Patty Blum, Crestwood Executive Vice President and Greg Parnell, ALWF, and Crestwood’s Health and Wellness Facilitator represented Crestwood and shared the amazing work our staff are doing for wellness on our campuses.

This webinar will help you rethink how you want your workplace to look.
